Power Platform Weekly - Issue #93

www.ppweekly.com

Welcome to Power Platform Weekly!

We're back! Even though we took a summer break, the community did not. Lucky for us, because without all of you, there would not be much to tell in here. We would of course have the Out of the Blue news, which also kept coming during our break.

You might have noticed that the 2022 Release Wave 2 Plans came out (don't miss our wave 2 dedicated section) as well as lots of preview announcements. One of them being the concept of Managed Environments (even with its own icon). Find out more in this Power CAT Live video and in the announcement.

Here is a reading list with Out of the Blue news.

  • Preview of Power Apps grid control in model-driven apps

  • Preview of dependent assemblies for plug-ins

  • Preview of Collaboration controls in Power Apps

  • Preview of Power Fx formula columns in Dataverse

  • Preview of Canvas apps in Dataverse solutions by default

  • Preview of auto update for Power Apps

  • Preview of ESLint rules for Power Apps and Dynamics 365

  • Announcing Power Platform Build Tools 2.0

  • 44 new verified connectors and 19 updates in June

  • 10 new independent publisher connectors in July

  • Pay-as-you-go for Power Automate in preview

  • Visualizing views in Power Apps with Power BI is now GA

  • Two new bot actions for Power Automate & Microsoft Teams

  • PVA now supports Czech, Finnish, Greek, and Thai

  • Power BI Feature Summaries, July and August

From now on the Out of the Blue news section might not be entirely out of the blue. Daniel Laskewitz has joined team Blue! We're happy to tell you that he will continue as a co-curator as usual.

In case you did not notice, there is a Power Platform App Challenge to participate in, build a Travel Request App. More info can be found here.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

💙 Out of the Blue

👩‍💻 The most significant change this month is that the Build Tools are now based on Power Platform CLI.

There are some new commands as well to assign users, automatically generate a Power App from an API definition, and sync an existing solution from an environment.

🦸🏻‍♀️👩‍💻 The Power Apps grid control represents the next evolution in grid experiences for model-driven apps, as this new modern grid control includes not only the accessibility and design enhancements from the modern read-only grid control but also boasts additional capabilities like inline editing, infinite scrolling, and customized cell renderers/editors.

🦸🏻‍♀️🚀 It's now possible to enable a preview where every new canvas app will be part of a solution. The canvas apps will get saved to the default solution, but make sure to add them to your solutions when needed.

🤵🏻🦸🏻‍♀️🚀 Four new preview languages (Czech, Finnish, Greek, and Thai) are added in Power Virtual Agents. This brings the number of languages that Power Virtual Agents supports to 23!

🤵🏻🦸🏻‍♀️🚀 A new version of the Power Automate Android app is now available in public preview! Based on your feedback, the app has been redesigned to deliver a new UI that is more consistent with the look and feel of the Power Automate web portal while also improving some existing experiences. Some features are not available anymore, so it might be good to prepare for that.

🚀 Customer Lockbox enables administrators to control access to their organization's data from Microsoft personnel during troubleshooting. Administrators can turn on the Customer Lockbox feature for their tenants from the Power Platform admin center, view Microsoft personnel’s data access requests, and approve or deny them as the final gatekeeper.

🦸🏻‍♀️🚀 Using basic authentication, you can now connect to all your PostgreSQL workloads in the cloud. Just select PostgreSQL in the connection type dropdown menu when creating a new connection to your virtual network data gateway from the manage gateways page on the PBI service.

🦸🏻‍♀️🚀 Datamarts in Power BI is a fully managed SQL database that allows users to perform relational database analytics using no-code/low-code easily. As you all know, the Public Preview of Datamarts was announced during Build in May 2022. Since then, the team has been working on improving Datamarts with more capabilities based on feedback. Read on for all the improvements!
